A 21-year-old woman died Sunday morning after she was struck in the head by a balcony pole that fell after police say an impaired driver crashed his car in the French Quarter.

A drunk driver crashed into a balcony pole in the French Quarter, killing a pedestrian the morning before her 22nd birthday, police state.
A 21 year old woman identified as Taylor McGonigle was killed after she was struck in the head by a balcony pole that fell when Tevest Vance, 37, an impaired driver, crashed his Nissan into a balcony pole in the 400 block of Burgundy Street near Conti in the French Quarter in New Orleans, LA. The pole struck McGonigle, who died on the scene. Vance was arrested and booked with vehicular homicide after attempting to flee the scene when he was stopped by a Good Samaritan after his car stalled. Vance was intoxicated and blood and alcohol tests are pending.
