Central City man killed in truck crash identified, as police report says driver appeared drunk

Court documents indicate the Algiers man had a prior DWI arrest in 2009, but the outcome of that case was unclear. Records also show Nelson was arrested in May 2006, accused of gun and drug violations, but those charges were refused by prosecutors five months later. Nelson's arrest register listed his employer as the city's Sewage and Water Board.

One person killed, another arrested after Uptown wreck

Detectives said that the truck flipped on its side and came to a stop in the street. The passenger inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

John Alexander was riding in a pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Isaac Nelson, who was reportedly intoxicated and driving "recklessly above the posted speed limit." Nelson struck a parked car, causing the truck to become airborne and crash. Alexander was not able to be freed from the vehicle before he succumbed to his injuries. Nelson was arrested and booked into jail with his bond set at $100,000. His hearing is scheduled for Januray 5th.
