Boy on bicycle hits moving car in Island Falls

The sheriff of Aroostook County said Tuesday in a written statement that a Dixfield boy is lucky to have escaped more serious injuries after he struck a moving car while riding a bicycle on Monday. Sheriff Darrell Crandall said that the crash happened just before 6 p.m. in Island Falls. Crandall said deputies and Maine State Police troopers went to the scene of the accident, which occurred on a trail in a field just west of the village on Route 2. The 13-year-old boy had been biking down the path, the sheriff said, when he apparently entered the roadway and struck the side of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Kimberly Long, 43, of Island Falls.
