A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Middle River Tuesday morning, according to Amtrak and Baltimore County emergency officials.

Amtrak is working to transfer passengers on the No. 20 Crescent train to others so they can "continue on their way," said an Amtrak spokesman.
Other rail traffic is continuing to move through the area at reduced speeds.

The train from New Orleans to New York struck the pedestrian just before 11 a.m. in the area of Orems Road and Entrance Drive, officials said.
The individual was trespassing on Amtrak property.

An initial investigation showed the person was on the tracks, said a Baltimore County police and fire spokeswoman.

Police were called to the scene at 11:09 a.m., she said, and police, fire and Amtrak officials remained there around noon. The area was blocked off to vehicles and other pedestrians.

There were no major delays on the Amtrak system due to the incident.
