A well-known Staten Island rabbi, who was popular for his religious teachings over social media, died Sunday morning in a car accident in Maryland, authorities confirmed.

"The entire county is paralyzed due to ice conditions," Harford County Fire & EMS Association reported on its media page on Facebook early Sunday.

Rabbi Dovid Winiarz of Staten Island was killed when the driver of the Honda CR-V he was traveling in lost control on Route 23 in Harford County, Maryland and collided with another vehicle at around 8:10 a.m., according to Maryland State Police. The Honda CR-V was headed west when the driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and struck an eastbound Honda Pilot traveling eastbound. Winiarz was a passenger in the back seat and suffered fatal injuries in the accident.  The driver and front seat passenger were injured and later transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The female driver of the Honda Pilot and her juvenile passenger were transported to the same hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
