Elderly Columbia woman dies after single-car crash

Toshiko Nakaya Mecklenburg, 83, died on Sunday, police said. She was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on Old Annapolis Road at 3:27 p.m. on Saturday when the car didn't make a curve in the road and struck an embankment. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was alone in the car.
Mecklenburg was initially brought to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries, but later developed more medical complications.
