1 Dead, 1 Injured After Early Morning ATV Crash In Bowie

Authorities in Prince George’s County say a man was killed and a woman suffered serious injuries after an ATV overturned on a Bowie trail.

“An ATV is not only illegal but dangerous,” said Lt. Brian Waters, a spokesman for Maryland-National Capital Park Police. “These trails are not designed for nighttime riding of ATVs.”

It is not clear at this time who was driving the ATV and whether drugs or alcohol may have been factors in the accident, according to authorities. 
On Monday morning, Maryland-National Capital Park police were called to the scene of an overturned SUV on the Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis Trail where it goes underneath the 8600 block of Race Track Road after someone reported hearing screams. Brandon Barnes, 23, of Lanham was pronounced dead at the scene, and DeAndra Jones of Lanham, 25, was airlifted in critical condition to the shock trauma center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where she is in grave condition. Neither was wearing a helmet. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
