A University of Maryland student, Cory Hubbard, 22, was fatally struck by a vehicle early Friday as he crossed a street in College Park, in what police are calling a hit-and-run collision. Hubbard was struck shortly before 2 a.m. while walking across Baltimore Avenue at the intersection of Knox Road when he was hit. Police said he was not in a crosswalk. The student was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. A second person was crossing the street at the same time as the collision, but police do not know if that person and the student who was struck knew each other or were walking together, Bond said. The other person was not injured. The vehicle that struck the student was described as dark metallic blue in color. There is no description of the driver, but police said surveillance cameras outside area businesses might help them find the person.
