WASHINGTON — One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday night in Takoma Park, Maryland. According to Takoma Park police, the crash happened around 7:25 p.m. in the 7800 block of Carroll Avenue, near Garland Avenue. Carroll Avenue is closed in the area of the crash as police continue to investigate. Police say the driver died at the scene, and two passengers were taken to local hospitals.

One person was killed and two others were critically injured Thursday night in a single-car crash in Takoma Park, Montgomery County officials said. The accident happened in the 7800 block of Carroll Avenue, where three people were trapped in a car about 7:30 p.m., said Pete Piringer, a Montgomery County fire department spokesman. One person was dead at the scene and authorities took two other patients to a hospital with critical injuries. No details could be learned immediately about the crash.

The Toyota Corolla was headed north on Carroll Avenue when it left the road and hit a stone wall and embankment in front of a house. The driver of the car — Yoftahea Afework Melese, 20, of Takoma Park — was pronounced dead at the scene.
