Boston police have located the car believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash in the Back Bay that critically injured a pedestrian and snarled traffic during the morning commute today, authorities said.

A retired Cambridge police officer charged in a hit and run crash in Boston says he didn’t realize he had struck a person with his car on Wednesday morning.
Boston police have located the car believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash in the Back Bay that critically injured a pedestrian and snarled traffic during the morning commute today, authorities said.
The victim, who was an adult male, was transported to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement.
Officers responded to the MBTA Massachusetts Avenue station at 6:02 a.m. to investigate reports of a person struck by a car, according to Officer Rachel McGuire, a police spokeswoman.
Massachusetts Avenue was closed between St. Botolph and Tremont Streets for the police investigations, creating traffic delays.
The outbound lanes of Massachusetts Avenue between St. Botolph Street and Columbus Avenue remain closed. All other lanes have since been reopened, police said.
UPDATE: Police have identified the alleged hit & run driver as Lawrence Stead, 69.
