The 37-year-old male driver of the convertible was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 40-year-old passenger in that car was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for his injuries.

Police said a convertible slammed into an SUV that was waiting at a stop light at the intersection of Washington Street and Mendon Road around 10:35 p.m. The 37-year-old male driver of the convertible was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 40-year-old passenger in that car was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for his injuries. During a preliminary investigation, police interviewed witnesses who reported that the convertible had been involved in a hit and run earlier in Pawtucket, R.I.
