Police believe an empty tanker truck was traveling in the right lane when it passed a Wayne County Road Commission truck on the shoulder with its arrow board activated, directing traffic to merge left around 2 p.m. The truck driver did not merge left, and struck a second road commission vehicle that was stopped in the right lane, according to state police Lt. Mike Shaw.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. Thursday on southbound I-275 just south of Michigan Avenue. State police say Sakofske had passed one county road commission truck that was on the shoulder before striking a second truck that was stopped in the freeway’s right lane. He was killed instantly.
