One person seriously injured, one other injured, after a car exits I-696 near Warren, Michigan
Driver thrown from car in crash that closed I-696.
A motorist was seriously injured in a single car rollover crash on I-696 in Warren that closed the eastbound lanes of the freeway for several hours this morning, Michigan State Police said. A 2000 Dodge Neon was in the right lane on eastbound I-696 near Fairfield when it lost control about 5:35 a.m. The vehicle went up an embankment, rolled back onto the freeway on to its roof in the far left lane, state police said. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and underwent surgery at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. A passenger also suffered minor injuries. State police did not identify those injured in the accident that closed I-696 until about 9 a.m. State police said the driver may not have been wearing his seat belt. Fatigue and alcohol are being investigated as factors in the crash, state police said.
