The motorist consented to a preliminary breath test. It showed she had not been drinking any alcohol, police said.
Norma Jean Casolari, 68, was struck by a 2014 Kia Optima driven by a 20-year-old woman at approximately 9:47 p.m. Tuesday near the left turn lane of Van Dyke at Stanley Avenue, one block south of 12 Mile Road. The Kia driver told investigators she was slowing down for a red traffic light at 12 Mile Road when she struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Casolari was crossing one block from a marked crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing, leading police to believe that she may have been difficult to see in the dark.
