One person is dead after a car crashed and caught fire during the morning commute on US 131 Monday morning.

One person is dead after a car crashed and caught fire during the morning commute on US 131 Monday morning. Authorities say the car, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, was going northbound on US 131. Around 7:45 a.m., the driver lost control, left the road south of Ann Street and went over the guard rail. It appears the car crashed after going down the embankment. Authorities believe that is when the car caught fire. The driver, 26-year-old Armando Cruz-Williams of Grand Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the crash, but they said they don’t know what initially caused the driver to lose control of the car.

We have known Armandofor 9 years. He was a nice young man and always respectful to my daughter and myself. He will be missed by many. I hope in the terrible accident he was gone before the fire. So sad.
