The Minnesota State Patrol is identifying the four people killed Friday near Sleepy Eye on icy roads.
It happened on Highway 14 in Brown County just after 8 p.m. A 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was headed westbound on Highway 14, going into a curve heading southbound, when it lost control and entered into the opposite lane of traffic.
It was hit broadside by a 1999 Dodge Ram headed northbound into the curve.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, four passengers of the Pontiac were killed. They have been identified as John Mangen, 18, of Fairfax; Caleb Quesenberry, 17, of St. Peter; Payton Adams, 17, of Sleepy Eye and Tyler Hadley, 20, of Sleepy Eye.
The state patrol said they found what is believed to be marijuana in the Pontiac, it's unclear if that played a role in the crash. None of the passengers in the backseat were wearing seatbelts, according to a preliminary investigation. It's unclear if the passenger in the front seat was belted in.
The driver of the Pontiac, Kansas Adams, 19, of Sleepy Eye, suffered serious injury. He was wearing his seatbelt, the state patrol said. The state patrol believes Kansas Adams is the brother of Payton Adams.
The family in the Dodge Ram suffered non-life threatening injuries. Douglas Wiborg, 43, of New Ulm was driving and had his two children, Jakob, 9, and Sydney, 7, with him in the vehicle. They were all wearing seatbelts, the state patrol reported.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the state patrol.
