Onetime leader of American Legion ball in Minnesota dies in Hwy. 13 car wreck
Authorities on Wednesday identified the man who died in a three-vehicle crash on a Burnsville highway as a onetime leader of American Legion Baseball in Minnesota.
Darwin H. Berg, 71, of Chaska, was killed late Tuesday afternoon in the wreck on Hwy. 13 at Washburn Avenue, according to the State Patrol. Berg was the state director of Minnesota American Legion Baseball for nine years until 2012.
Berg was driving his minivan south on Hwy. 13 and “abruptly swerved” into oncoming traffic, hitting a Ford Edge head-on, the patrol said. The Ford was then rear-ended by a Nissan Altima, the patrol added.
Authorities have yet to explain why Berg made the sudden move.
The Edge’s driver, Jeanna R. Meyer, 55, of Lakeville, suffered noncritical injuries. The Nissan’s driver, Patrick G. Bye, 31, of Hampton, was not hurt.
