2 brothers, one a bank exec, killed in western Minnesota plane crash

Sheriff Stacy Tufto said authorities have yet to determine who was piloting the aircraft because “both of them were capable of flying. There were two controls.” Soon after takeoff from the Montevideo-Chippewa County Airport, the plane turned left and the right wing “just went straight up, like it had caught a gust of wind” before crashing, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office read.

Weight, wind blamed in fatal 2014 aircraft crash

The combined effect of being over the weight limit of the plane and gusty wind conditions caused the crash of an ultralight aircraft Sept. 7, 2014, in western Minnesota that took the lives of two brothers.

Authorities say a small airplane crashed at around 3:45 p.m. in a soybean field soon after takeoff in western Minnesota, killing the two brothers aboard. Mark Schultz, of Sleepy Eye, MN, was a vice president at First Security Bank in Sleepy Eye, the bank stated.
