A 55-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car on the border of Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center Friday night and died shortly after at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, police said Saturday. The driver, an 18-year-old woman, was heading northwest on Osseo Road and hit the woman, who was crossing N. 49th Avenue, said a Minneapolis police spokeswoman. The victim was wearing a dark-red coat, and the driver, who was believed to be driving at or near the posted speed limit, never saw the victim in the darkness police said. The names of the driver and victim have not been released, but police said the victim lived only a couple of blocks from where she was hit, and that she had been crossing toward her house when hit at 9:45 p.m. The driver continued for another 110 feet with no skid marks, with she and her 20-year-old passenger — her sister — questioning whether they had hit someone or something. He said dark red is hard to see in the darkness.
