UPDATE: Three dead in Jeff Davis County wreck

A two-vehicle accident sent four people to the hospital, and claimed the lives of three in Jeff Davis County. A Ford Explorer slammed into a Chevy Malibu on Highway 42 between Carson and Bassfield around 1:30 p.m. The two passengers in the Malibu, and one passenger from the Ford Explorer were pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner. The three people in the Ford Explorer were sent to the hospital. Names of the deceased are being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.

Names released in Jeff Davis County triple fatal wreck

A two-vehicle accident sent four to the hospital, and claimed the lives of three in Jeff Davis County Thursday afternoon. The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The four other passengers in the Ford Explorer included Jennifer Singh, 26, of Hattiesburg, and three children ages six, three and six months. A head-on collision between a Ford Explorer and a Chevy Malibu happened on Highway 42 between Carson and Bassfield around 1:16 p.m. Officials said the driver of the Ford Explorer, Richard Corkern, 56, of Hattiesburg died at the hospital after being transported.
