Woman struck multiple times along Mississippi highway

At this point it appears to have been an accident. According to the police report, Woodgate was walking in the right southbound lane of Highway 61 when she was hit.

Miller says the driver left the scene, but turned herself in around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say a 22-year-old driver is accused of striking and killing a woman who was walking near Walls in DeSoto County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Joey Miller tells The Commercial Appeal the female driver was heading south on U.S. Highway 61 about 10 p.m. Saturday.

Miller says she struck 36-year-old Susan Woodgate. He says Woodgate died at the scene. Authorities say it was unclear exactly how the accident happened.

Miller says the driver left the scene, but turned herself in around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

He says the investigation is continuing, and charges may be filed.

The driver has not been identified.
