Michael Elwood, Jennifer San Nicolas, and Tami Knight killed in collision with fire truck on Broadway Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri

The crew's truck collided with an SUV on Broadway Boulevard near Westport Road, and the force of the crash sent both vehicles into a nearby brick building.

“Michael was a loving son, brother, and friend who brought joy, laughter, and friendship to the hearts of so many people who knew and loved him,” the post by organizer Anna Elwood said.

According to scanner audio from Broadcastify.com, the crew was responding to a possible weather-related fire when a different truck, pumper 18, took over the call.

San Nicolas and Michael Elwood, another identified victim in the crash, were both employed by Ragazza Food & Wine in Kansas City, Missouri.

Heavy damage occurred at the part of the building once home to the Riot Room, a bar and music venue that only recently closed its doors. The building currently houses office spaces, though police believe it was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Officials on Monday released the identities of three people killed last week when a Kansas City fire truck collided with an SUV in Westport.

“Tami was a light, always had something positive to say, one of those people who never had a bad day, one of those people who always had something coming up on the horizon, whether it was scuba diving or skydiving or hiking.”

The warning came in a Sept. 29 email with the subject heading “Horrendous driving” sent by a medic to supervisors in the Kansas City Fire Department. A copy of the message was included among documents filed this week in Jackson County Circuit Court.

A Kansas City firefighter made “blatantly false statements” to police investigators after he drove a fire engine through a red light in Westport and crashed into several vehicles and a building, killing three people, a retired judge overseeing his resulting civil proceedings has found.

An independent arbitrator in October said the pumper truck driver was negligent and "directly caused" the deadly Westport crash, recommending more than $30 million be awarded to the victims' families and a surviving victim.

A Kansas City fire truck driver was charged Tuesday after a collision in Westport killed three people in December 2021.
