One person killed in three vehicle crash

Police say a semi crashed with a Nissan Armada and that the Armada hit a Chevrolet Blazer. The semi continued and hit the Blazer, causing the Blazer to be pushed into the median.

The Blazer overturned, ejecting the driver and passenger.

Missouri doctors deliver baby after mother dies in crash

Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Adam Glueck says officers administered CPR in the hopes of saving Iler and the baby. Iler was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, but doctors performed an emergency cesarean section and delivered her daughter, Maddyson.

The newborn was taken off a ventilator on Friday, though doctors don't know yet if she suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.

Maddyson’s mother, Sarah Iler, was 39 weeks pregnant and dilated when she was killed on May 11, 2016. Iller was traveling with her husband, Matt Rider, when they were struck on a highway in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the Southeast Missourian reported. Iler was declared dead at the scene, but emergency personnel performed CPR on Maddyson.

Maddyson is breathing on her own, has opened her eyes, has squeezed the nurses fingers, and my mom (her grandma) got to hear her cry today....there is still a possibility of long term damage to her brain and lungs but we just have to keep praying and waiting....my thanks goes out to everyone for their selfless acts in this terrible time of tragedy and we greatly appreciate the love and support and all the prayers.

Infant saved by emergency c-section after fatal wreck has brain damage

According to an amended petition from Alan S. Mandel, Kasandra Iler's lawyer, Maddyson suffered hypoxic brain trauma as a result of the accident, and she will need medical treatment for the rest of her life. Hypoxic brain trauma often is caused by a lack of oxygen reaching the brain.
