Both directions of Hall St. in north St. Louis were closed early Friday morning after a car crashed into a light pole killing one person and injuring another.
According to police, a car crashed into a light pole at Hall and Adelaide around 1:40 a.m.
Police said there were two people trapped in the vehicle who had to be extricated.
Witnesses said the car was speeding, tried passing and then lost control while trying to get back over.
One person was killed in the single vehicle accident. The other person was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition.
Authorities reopened all southbound lanes and one northbound lane of Hall St. around 5:40 a.m. while accident reconstruction crews continued working at the scene.
No other details were immediately available.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
