Donald Huffman, a 45-year-old man from Anaconda, died in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon on Montana Secondary Highway 569 near mile marker 3.3 in Deer Lodge County.

According to a dispatcher from Montana Highway Patrol, Huffman was riding his Harley-Davidson northbound on 569 when he went off the right side of the road. Huffman quickly turned left, making his way back on the pavement. The motorcycle then flipped onto its side.

When the Montana Highway Patrol arrived on the scene, Huffman was dead. His body was in the northbound lane, and his motorcycle was in a ditch.

Huffman was not wearing a helmet, Deer Lodge County Coroner Gerry Thomas said. Thomas said the cause of death was "blunt trauma to the head and trunk."

Alcohol was not a factor but speed was. Road conditions were described as bare and dry.

A Highway Patrol dispatcher said they also have a Hardin address for Huffman on file.

Thomas stressed the importance of wearing a helmet.
