New Mexico motorcyclist killed in Blue Diamond accident ID'd
This is the twentieth fatal accident in NHP's Southern Command and it also marks the fourth fatality involving a motorcycle.
On Friday evening, a white 2002 Yamaha Classic on eastbound Blue Diamond Road (State Route 160) near mile marker 18 when the motorcyclist drifted from the travel lane onto the right paved shoulder as the brakes were being applied, entering the south gravel shoulder, and losing control. The rider, identified as 43-year-old Dickie Chavez of Socorro, New Mexico was thrown from the bike and died at the scene.

Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision.
