Witnesses initially called the Highway Patrol about a motorcycle down. Dispatch logs indicate they called in the crash about 5:30 a.m.

The patrol said in a release that the motorcylist was riding a silver 2003 Yamaha YZFR sport motorcycle southbound on the highway about 5:24 a.m. when it left the roadway near mile marker 112 and struck a culvert.
