James Hallaway, 65, of Saddle River, was driving south in the area of milepost 155.4 in Clifton when he lost control shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to New Jersey State Police. The SUV ran off the highway and struck the guardrail. Hallaway was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries, state police said.
