Somerville pedestrian fatally struck by Manville driver, police say.

A Somerville woman was killed and a man injured when a Manville driver struck them Saturday night on South Main Street, police said.

At about 7:55 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Manville Police Department were called to a motor vehicle crash involving two pedestrians on South Main Street north of the Kennedy Boulevard jughandle, according to the Chief of the Manville Police.
Pedestrians Marisela Atenco-Balbuena, 23, and Jose E. Gonzalez, 27, both of Somerville had parked their vehicle at the Sparkle Self Serve Car Wash on the southbound side of South Main Street, and were crossing over to the northbound side to the American Legion Post 304 at 429 South Main St., police said.

Harpreet Locham, 18, of Manville, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on South Main Street, struck both Atenco-Balbeuna and Gonzalez, Peltack said.

Altenco-Balbuena was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with severe head trauma and was later pronounced dead, police said.
Gonzalez was taken to Somerset Medical Center with a leg injury, and Locham was uninjured, Peltack said.

So far, no one has been charged in relation to the crash, which police said remains under investigation by Manville Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team.
