One person killed, after their car leaves the Garden State Parkway roadway near Middletown, crosses into the median and crashes into a tree.

State Police say the driver of a car died after the vehicle slammed into a tree in the center median on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Tuesday morning's crash closed the northbound express lanes, creating a 13-mile traffic backup and causing delays for motorists. Traffic was backed up to I-195.

A State Trooper stated that it's unclear if weather played a role in the crash. Police also says there was debris from a dead deer in the road and it's not clear if the motorist had swerved to try to avoid it.
