The driver is cooperating with detectives, and had not been charged as of this afternoon, Murray and Venable said. Wheeler is the second person to be killed by a truck on Doremus Avenue in the last two months.
A man was hit and killed by a garbage truck in the city's East Ward early Wednesday. Earl Wheeler, 58, was walking on Doremus Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. when he was hit by a Mack truck as it was backing into a garbage bay. Wheeler was pronounced deceased at 4:48 a.m.
