Saturday, September 6, 2014Man flown to hospital after BMW overturns in Riverdale, cops say
Robert Rapp, 62, of Bloomingdale was driving his green BMW on the Newark-Pompton Turnpike when he made a left onto the Hamburg Turnpike and then turned right into the driveway for Slater's Mill, an abandoned building, Lt. James MacIntosh said in an email. Rapp "for an unknown reason" veered left and went over the curb and down the 15-foot embankment, MacIntosh said. The BMW struck the front first and overturned, he said.
The top was down on the car, a BMW, at the time of the crash, but Rapp, who was wearing a seat belt, was trapped inside. Rapp was extricated from the vehicle and then flown by medevac to Hackensack Trauma Center. Lt. James MacIntosh said that Rapp did not suffer life-threatening injuries and that he was conscious and alert at the scene. "If he hadn't been wearing his seat belt, he would have been dead," he told a newspaper.
