(AP) — Three people are dead and more than a dozen injured after a crash involving a car, a multi-passenger van and a pickup truck with a trailer carrying cows in New Jersey. State police say the crash happened Saturday night about 30 miles west of New York City on Interstate 287. State police say they’ll release more information later Sunday. Traffic was detoured around the area for a time but the interstate has reopened.

State police say three people are dead and more than a dozen injured after a crash involving a car, a multi-passenger van and a pickup truck with a trailer carrying cows.The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 287 in Bernards Township at 10:32 p.m. Saturday.Police said two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim died at Morristown Medical Center, where three others were taken. Two have serious injuries.Nine people were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and two to Overlook Medical Center. All have non-life-threatening injuries.Police said some cows died and others were transported from the scene.I-287 was closed for three hours and traffic was being diverted.

At the same time, police said a Ford passenger van carrying 13, believed to be all employees from a local Chinese restaurant, struck the guardrail, the trailer, then the Dodge and then Naik. Naik was killed along with two others who were riding in the van. Twelve people were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, including the driver of the pickup truck.
