75-year old woman struck, critically injured in Wayne
Jennifer Cooke stood looking out her apartment's Valley Road-facing door at the officers investigating. "The whole road ... is nuts," she said. "People fly." Cooke said she sometimes parks on Knox near Valley Road and getting out of the car can be harrowing. "They're just zooming," she said.

Patricia Liu-Chao, of Wayne, was 75. She was pronounced dead at 1:44 p.m. at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson.

Patricia Liu-Chao, 75, was critically injured Tuesday while crossing Valley Road near Knox Terrace, and was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where she underwent surgery. A 2013 black Volkswagen Beetle heading south on Valley Road was driven by Charles Calderone, 56, of Mahwah, when it struck Liu-Chao. Calderone was not injured and remained at the crash site. It's unclear if the woman was walking from the Valley Terrace apartment complex to a bus stop on the westbound side of Valley Road.
