Western New York woman, 89, dies after 2 SUVs collide at intersection in Adirondacks

45-year-old Laura Houle of Island Pont, Vermont, failed to stop at a red light Thursday afternoon at the intersection of routes 8 and 28 in the town of Johnsburg.

Police say a western New York woman has died after the vehicle she was riding in was involved in a collision on an Adirondack road.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office tells The Post-Star of Glens Falls that 45-year-old Laura Houle of Island Pont, Vermont, failed to stop at a red light Thursday afternoon at the intersection of routes 8 and 28 in the town of Johnsburg.

Deputies say her sport utility vehicle was broadsided by another SUV. Houle's mother, 89-year-old Doris Hurling of Dansville in Livingston County, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

A local couple in the other SUV was treated for minor injuries.

Deputies say Houle also suffered minor injuries. She was ticketed for running a red light.
