Two good Samaritans ran up to the smouldering car and managed to pull the victim to safety.
It was approximately 3:45 a.m. when a white Pontiac left the roadway and crashed into the New Hardee Chinese Restaurant, which is at the intersection of Throop Avenue and DeKalb Avenue. The collision caused the car to catch fire, which quickly spread to the rest of the building. The driver of the car managed to get out, but a couple of good Samaritans had to pull the unconcious passenger from the vehicle. That passenger was the only person injured, and did not have life-threatening injuries. 15 people were evacuated from the burning building, and firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze two hours after it began. Two of the four apartmens were completely destroyed.
