Four people have been taken to the hospital and cars were backed up all the way to Staten Island during Wednesday morning rush hour after a multiple-car pileup on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn. Traffic was at a near-standstill after the crash about 4:30 a.m. near the Third Avenue exit. Hours later, the lanes were cleared but there were residual delays. All the victims taken to the hospital suffered non-critical injuries. Inbound high-occupancy-vehicle lanes were completely closed and delays stretched over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
