One officer approached the vehicle to pull it over and stop the 45-year-old driver but he took off. Billups, who was driving with a passenger, slammed into a Mercedes sometime after 8 p.m. The impact was so intense that the Mercedes was thrown through a fence and onto the front yard. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

It appears the Buick blew a stop sign and crashed into a Mercedes-Benz about 10 blocks away, police said. The impact sent both vehicles onto the front lawn of a house at that intersection, knocking down a fence and tree, Azzatta said.
