The Department of Transportation says a tractor trailer was traveling on NY 231, which crosses over Sunrise Highway, when it lost a tire or possibly two tires.
Driver Comes Forward in Freak Flying Tire Highway Death
Joseph Nickel, 48, of Islip, said he was driving a pickup truck and pulling a trailer on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon on July 5, according to Suffolk County police.
He told police that he later discovered the trailer was missing a tire.
