Queens man still critical days after trying to stop car thieves: NYPD

The thief behind the wheel hit the gas and sped down Lefferts Boulevard as Thompson clung to the roof rack of his SUV, officials said. At some point the driver lost control and hit a fire hydrant near Liberty Avenue, flipping the SUV over onto its side.

Tauree Thompson, 28, was picking up a Door Dash order from the Taco Bell on Liberty Avenue in Richmond Hill when three teenagers attempted to drive away in his idling Lexus. Seeing the suspects get in, Thompson rushed out and latched himself onto the roof.

Two teens arrested in NYC carjacking that left owner seriously hurt

The 15-year-old suspects were charged with grand larceny auto, criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle in connection to the Monday night incident in South Richmond Hill, authorities said.
