Willy C. Johnson, 67, killed, Bernice Hammonds, 49, Marshall Watson, 55, James Parker, 53, injured, transported to hospital, after their car leaves the State Route 96 roadway near Covert, and crashes into a ditch.

A 67-year-old man is dead and three others are injured after a rollover crash that Seneca County Sheriff's deputies say was caused by the driver falling asleep.

Deputies tell media outlets that 67-year-old Willy C. Johnson of the Wayne County town of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 7:25 a.m. Thursday. It happened on Route 96 in Covert, 40 miles southwest of Syracuse.

Deputies say the driver, 49-year-old Bernice Hammonds of Dundee, Fla., veered off the road after she fell asleep at the wheel. The car hit a ditch, became airborne and rolled over.

Deputies say Hammonds, 55-year-old Marshall Watson and 53-year-old James Parker of Ovid were taken to hospitals. Their condition hasn't been released.
