Virginia man, 28, killed in 1-car crash in central New York; upstate man hospitalized

Troopers say 28-year-old Dennis Malone of Hampton, Virginia was driving at a high rate of speed around 8:10 p.m. Sunday when he lost control and left the road in the town of Oswego, 35 miles north of Syracuse.

Unsafe speed contributed to the crash and neither victim was wearing a seat belt at the time, state police said. The crash remains under investigation.

New York State Police say a Virginia man was killed, and a passenger injured, in a one- car crash at about 8:11 p.m. Sunday on Hall Road in the Town of Oswego.

Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Dennis J. Malone, 28, of 19 Hatteras Landing, Hampton, Va., was driving his 2013 Ford Fusion at a high rate of speed west on Hall Road, when he lost control and the vehicle went off the north side of the road, police said. The car traveled through a dirt field before striking a tree line off the roadway. The crash occurred about a half mile east of Chapel Road.

Malone was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, David A. Cole, 58, of 260 Chapel Road, Hannibal, was ejected from the car. Police said he suffered internal injuries was flown by helicopter from the scene to Upstate University Medical Center.
