Gilbert Lazarus Carmona, 28, killed when his pickup is rear-ended by tractor-trailer on snowy northbound I-85 in Gaston County, North Carolina

The Belmont Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident. The wreck occurred at 9:27 a.m. on Interstate-85 North near the Exit 27 off ramp, according to the news release from the Belmont Police Department. The incident occurred when a tractor trailer ran into the back of a pickup truck that had slowed down due to weather related traffic conditions. Gilbert Lazarus Carmona, 28, of Rutherfordton, died in the crash, police say. The investigation is ongoing. It has not yet been determined if charges will be filed against the driver of the tractor trailer. The Belmont Police Department will consult with the District Attorney's Office before any charges are filed.
