Woman killed in Belmont crash

A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Belmont Monday night, police say. Belmont police are investigating why the vehicle was slowed or stopped in the roadway prior to the accident. The accident happened around 10:25 p.m. on Interstate 85 south between Exit 27 and the Catawba River Bridge. Both vehicles propelled farther down the road, resulting in the death of the female passenger in the vehicle that was hit. Officials believe one of the vehicles was slowed or stopped in the right lane, approaching I-85 south, when the second vehicle merged into the exit ramp lane, striking the slowed or stopped vehicle.
