Construction zone crash kills man in NW Charlotte

Police said Gilbert was driving his 2014 Honda Accord when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Flint Rock Road. Authorities said Gilbert continued driving into a construction zone and then hit the rear of an unoccupied trailer with a backhoe attachment.
One man is dead after driving into a construction zone and hitting a tractor Saturday afternoon. Lewis Edward Gilbert, 32, was driving his Honda Accord around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Old Little Rock Road and Flint Rock Road when he drove through a stop sign and into a construction site, smashing into a tractor with a backhoe attached. The impact caused the tractor to crash into a propane tank. Gilbert was transported to CMC Main where he died just before 4:30 p.m. It is not yet known if alcohol was involved in the accident.
