Officials: One killed, 17 injured in uptown crash involving CATS bus

One person was killed and 17 others were injured Monday in a vehicle crash involving a Charlotte Area Transit (CATS) bus in uptown Charlotte. Officials have not released much information, but from WBTV's Sky 3 the wreck appeared to have involved the CATS bus, a black pickup truck and a silver sedan. The pickup appeared to have been heavily damaged. It is not clear how the crash may have happened or if any charges are being filed. The accident happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of 3rd and McDowell Streets.

Medic: 14 injured in uptown crash involving CATS bus

Officials have not released much information, but from WBTV's Sky 3 the wreck appeared to have involved the CATS bus, a black pickup truck and a silver sedan. Medic reported that fourteen people were injured in the wreck, but have not given any information about them. The pickup appeared to have been heavily damaged.

The CATS bus was traveling through a green light when it was hit, swiping a 2013 Lexus IS250. The Ford swerved left around other vehicles that were stopped at the light and went into the intersection where it collided with CATS bus number 2115, officials say. A preliminary investigation shows a truck that drove that through a red light and collided with the CATS bus may have been experiencing brake failure, police say. The accident happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of 3rd and McDowell Streets near the John Belk Freeway/I-277 ramp.
