The crash closed Garner Bagnal between Wall and Opal streets for more than two hours.
A third vehicle, a van, sustained minor damages in the crash and that driver was not injured.

Montie Lippard, 65, of Statesville, died at the scene of the collision around 6 a.m. at Garnet Bagnal Boulevard and Wall Street.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup, was Scott Jeffrey Stephens, 38, of Mooresville. Stephens was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem with serious injuries, but is in stable condition, said Statesville Police Department Public Information Officer Chan Austin.
