Child killed in crash along I-77 near Troutman

A child was killed when a vehicle crashed along Interstate 77 in Troutman, near mile marker 45, Friday afternoon. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 p.m. and all of the northbound lanes were closed. Troopers have not released the age or name of the child killed in the crash, or the status of other people in the vehicle.

Father charged after 6-year-old killed in wreck with tow truck

A father has been charged after his 6-year-old son was killed in a wreck, along Interstate 77, Friday afternoon with a tow truck. Investigators say all three were treated at the hospital after the wreck and have been released. Troopers say Cordial was riding in a car seat at the time of the wreck. Troopers say he initially gave investigators a fake name. The driver of the tow truck was not injured.

According to troopers, the driver of a Ford pickup truck lost control on the road and slammed into tow truck owned by Freeman's Wrecker. Troopers say Cordial was riding in a car seat at the time of the wreck. The driver of the tow truck was not injured. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 6-year-old Chris Cordial, of Statesville, was killed in the crash.
