A man faces multiple charges including DWI and assault with a deadly weapon after a police officer was injured in a crash Tuesday night.
A man faces multiple charges including DWI and assault with a deadly weapon after a police officer was injured in a crash Tuesday night. Archdale Police Officer J.A. Jeffries was injured in the crash around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Gregg Street and Robert Lane. He was treated for minor injuries at High Point Regional Hospital and released. Vernon Timothy Dehart, 47, of Trinity, was treated for minor injuries at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. Archdale police allege Dehart sped toward Jeffries and hit his patrol vehicle. Jeffries had responded to the 300 block of Gregg Street following a report of a suspected drunk driver, police said. Jeffries found a vehicle matching the suspect description, but he was hit by the vehicle before he could speak with the suspect, police said. Dehart's charges include assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and DWI. He was held under a $1 million bond in the Randolph County Jail. The state Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
