Rene Quiterio Medel, 27, killed when his car leaves roadway in Forsyth County, slides down an embankment and crashes into trees.

A Winston-Salem man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

Rene Quiterio Medel, 27, died in the crash just after 6 a.m. in the 2700 block of Cole Road between Interstate 40 and Highway 311.

Medel's Honda Civic was going east on Cole Road when the car went off the road to the right, went down an embankment and crashed into several small trees, Winston-Salem police said.

The trees forced the car to rotate and face westbound, police said. Medel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
